Tonino Picula, our representative in the European Parliament, is the Vice Chair of Intergroup for Seas, Rivers, Islands and Coastal areas. He has decided to organize a conference titled "Maritime Heritage in Local Communities - Sustainability Models." An ambitious title often provokes unreasonable hope. Hopefully, not this time. During the lecture, I was particularly impressed with the enthusiasm of people working in similar jobs within renowned institutions in their own countires (Martyn Heighton, director of National Historic Ships, UK; Thedor Fruithof, secretary general of the European Maritime Heritage, NL; Thomas Hojrup, Han Herred Havbade association, DK) and by the business reflection of A. Michael Vlahovich, Coastal Heritage Alliance/Croatian American Society.
A special promotional sailing was held for participiants in the evening on a typical family gajeta. The magic of sailing accompanied with an idylicall sunset was unforgetable.
