Following a lucky chain of events I've managed to attend the rowing regata on Vrgad. We were late and came at the end of their marenda. Fried sardine. A holiday atmosphere was felt in the village. With Branislav Madjeric of Pasman from Druzine od kanala and our few boats from Betina and Murter, the race wasn't going to be only local.

Taking a spring cruise on one of the most beautiful boat on Jadran (the Kurnatarica from Betina) is an amazing expirience. Zeljko's leut will pull us since it doesn't have a motor of it's own.

When the propulsion is in your own hands, you must take care of every single little detail to ensure a smoother ride. Removing the propeller in this circumstance is a good idea.

Madjeric organizes almost a dozen boats on the starting line. The ruckus of children in their canoos is impossible to quiet down. The start was sudden.

The ruckus became even louder now. The children in their canoos were soon joined by adults in their gajetas. The real yelling started now, with the sea splashing all over. Yelling is neccessary to hold a rythm while rowing. They swear since it's not going so well. The favourites (four boats) took the lead. A poor synchonization means poor performance. The rowing paddles are taken in on first contact so they could free themselves and continue the race.

Simun took the lead, while the Kurnatarica was lagging behind. This, however, was not the end. The boats get tangled up and the Kurnatarica managed to free themselves and with a few well synced strokes they catch up the Simun and it's young crew, taking the lead from them.
