We arrived at Zlarin right at the beginning of brunch.
A dozen gayets had already gathered, and by the end of the brunch another dozen had arrived. Almost ten more came just
before the start. A nice number for a regatta that never manages to reach the former number of participants. We who
have come help with our presence to restore their former reputation. I hope it changes for the better.
We see a new boat at the host's place. The renovated
gajeta sails for the first time in a regatta with a completely new sail (mast, stick and sail). The master who did
the work (Ante Fr¾op from Betina) is on the helm to see what he did. The owner and his company enjoyed a nice sailing,
trying to remember and learn as much as possible. The final result for the boat ©B 3962 Ivanica is surprisingly good.
In the first sailing, she was among the first five or six.
A relatively weak wind was expected, so a short route
was determined. Smart. Before the start, the wind increased and the sailing conditions changed. The favorites are people
with good knowledge, constant vigilance and useful experience, so they immediately separated themselves from the majority.
Many had a hard time getting out of the cove and fell far behind. The favorites took turns in the lead several times because
the competition took advantage of every mistake. The same thing happened in other power groups. Very interesting navigation
for the participants.
After registering at the yacht club, we stopped by to see
the coral reef museum. Beautifully and modernly decorated space. The people of Zlarin collected corals that they saw only
when they were brought to the surface, because the depths of 40 to 60 m were unimaginable for divers at that time. My
great-grandfather was the president of the coral growers' cooperative for many years, so I heard a lot of interesting
stories. One picture in the museum quite well conveys the secret of the coral fields, which the people of Zlarin knew and
jealously guarded.
