The port in front of hotel Koralj are the sign of the Latinskin idrun na kureje regatta in 2022. After two years of desolation, finally something lively in the port. First of all, the sailing route is agreed in the club premises. The weather forecast announces the possibility of a stronger mistral or bora. Just before the start, due to the strong wind, it was decided to shorten the route and start flying start.

In strong winds, it is impossible to keep all the boats on one line. A flying start means a somewhat chaotic motion that can create trouble. Fortunately, there was no contact between the ships and no one capsized. I would like to mention that sport sailing on a gajeta requires sailing very close to the tipping point. The skill is not to cross that limit.

It is best when there is a good wind and when luck favors the participants. No boat with a motor can start as lively and powerful as with a sail in a good wind. Within ten seconds of raising the sail, you are sailing with full force. The sea foams, the waves splash, and the helmsmen try not to make a single mistake. In the first few minutes, everyone is equal. The favorites keep an eye on the main competitors, but often someone new messes up their plans, especially if they persist in good sailing.

In the beginning, the Zlarin regatta was fierce and full of risks, and later it turned into a technical discipline, where experience is an advantage. The joy of sailing extended to a shared dinner and song. I am looking forward to the return Zlarin to the circle of places for good sailing.
