CROATIAN DAY |
|
For almost fifteen years, the Croatian movement for the promotion and preservation of maritime heritage has had the French as great friends. I do not know how we deserved it except the fact that our traditional ships still sail in their original purpose, which is certainly well recognized and highly appreciated by all lovers of maritime tradition. At world-class events (Brest, Morbihan, Sete) we often have a particularly respectable status. Although we are represented by one gajet this year, we are immensely proud of it. For the Croatian Day, when in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs we are celebrating 30 years of international recognition of the Republic of Croatia, the guests were the Mayor of Seta Mr. Francois Commeinhes and the director of the festival Mr. Wolfgang Idiri. The Republic of Croatia was represented by PhD Senka Burić, Deputy Head of Mission, Chargé d'Affaires a.i. We thank everyone for the honor.

Gajeta Mila (VD1227) was built in Lovran (Lovran guc 6 m long and 2.10 m wide) in 1968 by the famous master Ivan Nino Gašparinić. A student of the Korčula shipbuilders who adapted the Korčula gajeta to the needs of Kvarner. From the beginning, her home port is Šepurina on the island of Prvić with the family of Boris Antić. Although the typical family gajeta is intended for household chores: transport, transportation, fishing, Mila stands out with the elegance associated with songs such as "white sails, white boat, small boat". Regattas and cruises appear as new "household chores". She regularly participates in regattas in the Šibenik region, and has sailed Stari grad on the island of Hvar several times during the Days in Bay festival. Apart from the owner, in the photo in the middle, the crew includes Goran Franić and Albert Zucrov, both originally from Šepurina.

Apart from her, the Croatian Maritime Heritage was represented by the association Palagruža from Komiža. Komiža gundula is a small boat that does great deeds by having children learn about the sea, ships and independent decision-making. Everything they learn as children people remember all their lives. We saw a similar phenomenon in Sete. Groups of children attending the festival in an organized manner could be seen all day. Children learn about the value and importance of a ship. They are also learning about the importance of the festival for the local community and eagerly await the moment when, as one of 2,000 volunteers, they will contribute to the great festival of Mediterranean culture.
The Palagruža Association also presented a very strong gastronomic and fishing section, and the Vis Archipelago Geopark joined them. They presented the tradition of their region in theory and practice. The practice refers to numerous fishing skills workshops, including food preparation. Almost every day, a dish was presented that happier visitors could taste. The three-day action of untying the longlines was especially noticed. The theoretical part was reduced to interviews with accompanying printed materials. People with marketing experience say that at such events the efficiency of offering printed materials is three times higher than at classic tourism fairs. At the same time, the participation price is significantly lower.
The support of the party was taken over by Kaštela singers with traditional songs.
The Slovenian publicist Mitja Zupančič, known for numerous awards of the Croatian Tourist Board for monitoring the nautical sector, also joined the Croatian group. My dear friend has already set sail for Sete in the sailing ship Nerezinac, but they were hindered by the covid-19. The second attempt, by a bus called Nerezinac, succeeded.
